Kevin arrived back at the house last night and we spent quite a long time fondly remembering his dad and the times we spent together. We looked through all sorts of pictures, talked to his mom on the phone, and got along. Learning to be friends with one another is a very good thing. Roger’s illness and subsequent death have allowed us to find common ground and compassion for one another.

Today, I went shopping with The Lad. He is starting a new job, and having shed some weight, is in need of a new wardrobe. We went to just a couple of places in town where he found some shirts and ties, then to lunch. I was able to convince him to get a pink tie, in which he looked very handsome. There is something about men who have the confidence in their masculinity and the coloring to wear pink - quite appealing. He was likely just humoring me, but who cares. I hate shopping for myself, but playing fashion advisor to a man is such an easy task.

The horses all remained in today, which added another layer of positivity to the day. Yesterday, Killarney (the naughty young mare) somehow jumped out of the round pen. The sides are five feet tall. How she managed, I just do not know. Knowing the drama that I had encountered trying to catch her down in Madison, I was not relishing the task of putting her back. Fortunately, and most miraculously, she approached me within minutes and allowed me to return her to her rightful home. I can not describe the utter relief that I felt.

Of course today Killarney was threatening to kick me and would not allow me to touch her anywhere other than her shoulder. It is a long process to win over a personality such as this, but I have all of the patience in the world with horses.

Keeping focused on the animals and the joy that I feel working with them is really helping now.
