“Its gonna be the future soon, I won’t always be this way!” - Jonathon Coulton

I wanted to sit down and do a bit of an update this fine Tuesday morning. Tea in hand, Mariah Carey on the mp3 player, and capezios on my feet. Thinking about the one who got away in high school. Oh, Laura, I am so sorry.

Regardless of the melancholy of a 30-something, non Timothy Busfield guy, I thought we could talk a little bit about the future, or really the present (with a slight twinkle in our eye about the future). We, as a group, have gotten over the hump and finally feel good. We have a strong group of supporters, a bunch of frequent commentors, and some great mentors guiding us in this venture. So, thanks to you all.

As some of you know, and it’s not fair to assume that you all do, we are in the midst of a Wausau election cycle. Mayor, City Council, County board. I thought it would be fun to celebrate the public servants, and to avoid the negative. So I extended an invite to all the Councilpersons and the candidates for Mayor, and talked to a few. Each of them will end up in a “Cool Dude” piece, with an eye for a longer piece coming later.

In an attempt to avoid selecting teams, I want to convey that the pieces will try to be agenda free. I do not have a larger conspiracy, or desire for something. We are not using CW as a tool for change in this arena, at least not just yet. So, those of you who see conspiracies in anything, please know that we are not engaging in that.

Some of you might have seen the Navigation Bar. Andy was able to add a calendar for Citizen Wausau (thanks Google!). We want to throw everything up there, anything that is going on, large or small. If you have an event, send it to me at dino@citizenwausau.com. Make sure you have the address, the time, and all the rest. We will put it up ASAP.

As you can see, our community blogs are growing each and everyday. We hope you are commenting, and reading things from people in that area. It is fascinating to see what others are thinking sometimes.

Thank you again for being a part of this experiment. Even if only as a reader, we feel amazingly energized and are always thinking of ways to improve the experience. So, again, if you have any feedback, send it our way.

The WDH carried a brief recap today of the mayoral debate, with a couple of quotes from the candidates. Can CW get a more detailed or even full transcript to get more of their views to our readers? I’m sure much more was said than was reported in the paper. Even WSAU’s Web site only carried a very brief story with no audio files available. I’d really like this race to evolve into a wide-open, take-off-the-gloves public exchange of detailed positions, so the voters can get past mini-quotes, counting yard signs or big smiley billboards as the basis for their choice.

I’ve seen posts on the WDH online forum asking about Deb Hadley and her involvement with partner schools. What is THAT all about?

Well I just got a call from Ed Gale, who I admire immensely. So that will be a good one.

On an aside, about our calendar. I encourage you all to get gmail, and use the gmail suite of tools. In that is a tool called oddly enough, calendar.

You can share said calendar with Citizen Wausau, and in turn people will be able to see your stuff that your working on.

You also do not have to share everything from each event. It is high customizable. I love it personally, and the gmail tool in and of itself is amazing.

I believe local musician Jim Carlson is working with gmail in some form or another. I especially encourage musicians to do this, as it is a great tool that has tremendous publishing possibilities.
