[A Note from Dino: This post was made in haste, and Andy and I have talked about this more, and as a result we adding some changes. In an effort to be transparent, those changes will be easy to see.]
Dear Citizen Wausau Community,
Spring is here. We just passed our six month hump, and we are getting more traffic than we thought possible. Now, we need to make some changes. Not large changes, but small ones. Small but significant, and from that, we will look to you.
We seek to create, and implement a version of an editorial board. Not in the broad sense of a newspaper, but in a very hands-on, actively involved in the leadership of this website on a daily basis. We’re offering the keys to the castle, responsibility, and of course, no money. |We are not against money in the future, but the website makes no money now. We clearly would like to make money going forward.|
We need you. |We want outside voices to help us, and to make our website better.|
Right now we have a process for reviewing articles, and we seek to blow the doors off of that — to add more people to that process, to lighten the load, and at the same time season the soup.
So, we are opening out editorial house wide open. We have put forth a plan, and we want to implement it. But we need you. We really need you. But, you’re asking, WHAT IS INVOLVED? What will I need to do? How do I know I can be of help?
Well Riddle me this Batman, do you have a computer? Can you read? Are you good with grammar? Do you like Citizen Wausau? Would you be willing to take on the responsibility of reading and approving of stories with a group of people? Do you work well with others? Have you come to realize that Dino, while a genius, might just need a hobby and a way to meet girls and the computer is not the best place for him? And most importantly, do you want to?
The Next Action, send me an email here at CW. Tell us you want to be involved. So shoot me an email at dino at (this domain) dot com. Then we will all get together in real life, and talk through what we have planned.
The first step though is saying you want in. Our first step was addressing we want and need help. So we meet in the middle. You can take a leadership position, and we can get the help we sorely need.

I’m curious as to what this board will be reviewing. There seems to be just a core group of writers that post on the main page and not much else. In fact, looking at our calendar posting can get pretty slow sometimes.
Maybe I’m unclear as to what you guys are even asking for.

Please everyone, be aware that I misspoke a bit with the editorial board concept. I get excited sometimes, and this one time I failed to check with Andy.
I am buying a new car, so I am very very excited.
This board will be quite a bit farther reaching than an editorial board.
I already heard from my man Sullie, so that is 1 person who might be interested.

Writers, that’s what Citizen Wausau needs…somebody willing to say something – maybe even a woman. Apparently it’s nearly impossible for people to do – I mean, people can write, but when it comes to attaching one’s writing to an identity – people freak out…look at the Daily Herald – how many people actually sign their names to their posts?
People say the hardest words and then sign off with 3 letters…quack courage.

So with the clarification, you guys are looking for more content generators? A more cohesive group of people that will produce material for the blog?

We are looking for several things. We seek to develop content creators, writers, video makers, youtube exploiters, and overall geniuses. Clearly, at some point I need to not be the writer here, this should not be the Dino project. No one wants that.
Secondly, we also seek leaders. As CW grows, we need to find some folks with skills to help it grow, in the traditional BOARD sense.
And on top of that, we need some editorial help.
So in answer to your question, yes.
I think we have meeting room that we will be able to sit down in and get some work done.
So I hope that answers your question.

Very cool, Dino. Sorry, I don’t mean to sound like I’m busting your balls, I’m just curious since I really like what you guys have done with the site so far.
Unfortunately, I am very busy coming up in the next month or two with Microcosm so I doubt I’ll be able to contribute to the site any moreso than the occasional smart ass comment and my weekly blog.

That is a distinct possibility, although I’m wagering we’re throwing down about 40 to 60 minutes of footage a day. Even with a director account on YouTube I can only throw up 100 MB files. And I don’t think anyone by myself, Andy Jorde (cinematographer) and Seth Callawa (editor) will want to watch that much video anyway :D
I could look into finding maybe a god ten to fifteen minute section of the dailies that are fun or interesting. I know we’ll be inviting local press on set with us; with all the Johnny Depp mania maybe people will want to see a low budget film set. I’d have no problem with anyone from CW showing up, taking pictures and talking with the cast/crew during breaks, etc.
And I know we’ll need background artists, so I’d love to see some CW regulars on set for that :)
By the by it was neat to finally meet you in person, Mr. Corvino.
