6 Questions Inspired by The Fly Girls on In Living Color
So I guess, some of the hardest rejection is that from a volunteer agency. I know in most cases, these are folks doing good and are just looking to fill slots, but it still bothers me. It still makes me angry for wanting to help out.
Summer is here, and that means so many things. Car windows open, sleeping under a sheet and not a blanket, so many things.
- If you had to pick, what is the one song, the only song, that is the summer theme song for you? What song makes you think of summer, and is that song a song you listen to in the summer and it feels right?
- Do you think the city does enough programming to keep you engaged? Not really the city proper, but is there enough stuff to do, are we all doing enough? I mean there is the big stuff like the City Pages shows on the 400 block, and the KinzieBenefits shows, but is there enough little stuff? When I lived in Milwaukee, Summerfest was always there, but it was the little things like Rainbow Summer that were most appealing. What about the theatre companies doing something outdoors?
- Do you ride a bike? Not a scooter, Rosenberg. A pedal bike. Do you think it gives you the same joy now as it did as a young person? I loved riding my bike, doing skids and jumping, and now I am old and larger, and I do not jump. But I love riding my bike like a kid. Screw the heart rate monitors.
- Did you do anything at all for Earth Month? I ask this, because I am so sick of the general idea that real life gets in the way of just doing something, anything. I have grown tired of the naysayers. I mean why not just do something. What is the inherent objection to trying.
- Have you ever performed a Mitzvah?
- Who was your best summer girl or boyfriend?
And for fun…
What was the weirdest thing you ever passed out while wearing? I once passed out in drag.

1. summer song … Coincidentally, I’m planning a summer-themed show for my weekly radio program (Roundtrip, WNRB-LP, 93.3 FM 7-9 pm) … and I’ve been compiling a list. Choosing one is tough … but a top contender has to be “In the Summertime” Mungo Jerry.
2. city programming … seems like in Milwaukee, every week is “something week” or “something day” … ethnic, music, food, art. Chances for people to get the hell out of their houses and get together for some fun. No, not enough of it here, yet. But tonight is Exhibitour downtown.
3. Have a Trek, bought used. Riding it to work lately, and during lunch for exercise. Lovin’ it.
4. Bought some of those fabric bags at Trig’s, and am trying to remember to bring them along when shopping!
5. Lotsa matzos!
6. You mean before Jane? Can’t remember anyone special.
Bonus:
Weirdest thing worn when passed out:
Probably a very stupid look on my face.

1. Eve 6, Fenix TX, Finch, System of a Down and Cibo Matto always remind of summer for various reasons. But if I had to choice to one song it would have to be the Boys of Summer cover by The Ataris.
2. Wausau’s programming mostly relies on alcohol or being far to kiddy to be entertaining. I would like to see more stuff for the rare adult in this area that doesn’t partake of alcohol but still wants a night on the town.
3. I ride my bike to work almost everyday, if you see me on Grand Ave around 9:00 you should totally honk your horn or wave to me. I don’t bike for fun anymore. Sadly, biking just doesn’t have the same feeling for me now as it did when I was younger.
4. Nothing out of the ordinary. I used it as the hard date to start biking to work again, though I must admit that when the snow came down I still drove for safety. I’d like to think my lifestyle is fairly Earth friendly with recycling, greener light bulbs, no air conditioning, biking, reusing bags from stores, etc.
5. Nope. I come from a huge Polish Catholic family.
6. I would go with one quite recently. Her name was Bonnie. An amazing woman, graduated Suma Cum Laude from a division one school, did her senior thesis on drugs and politics in Kenya by living there for two summers, very geeky sense of humor. And, as with any summer relationship, she was striking. Her long curly red hair and wide smile jumped out at you, she had an amazing body.
Wow, just bubbled up a whole lot of memories.
Bonus: I’m not a drinker, so I really don’t have any good stories like this.

1. “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley. I was 16 at the time, just got my drivers license and every time I hear that song, it brings back tons of memories living in Milwaukee at the time - having the freedom of a summer off…
2. In summer there seems to be something going on quite often, but other times of the year there is not. Outdoor theater sounds interesting and I would love to see more outdoor concerts on the square.
3. I like getting out on my bike early Saturday mornings before most people are up. Unfortunately, I haven’t been doing that too much lately.
4. I have started bringing back and reusing my paper bags at Trigs. Also, trying to drive less (consolidate trips to the store, etc.). In addition, I’m striving to buy as much locally as I can (yeah for the Farmers Market and Downtown Grocery).
5. No
6. I’d have to say my husband - married for almost 16 years (in June) plus dated 5 years prior to getting married.
Bonus - Normally I’m the designated driver, and therefore the sober one. Although I’ve witnessed quite a few interesting things people did while intoxicated. However, that was quite a few years ago in college.
