5 Questions to Ponder While Trying to Put On a Pair of Waders

by Dino Corvino on May 30th, 2008

  1. What is your morning ritual? Some folks NEED coffee. I do not. I have found though, as I am losing weight, I need to eat in the first hour.
  2. Who is the most significant rock and roll band of all time? Some would argue that rock and roll is so much of a waste of time, but others would say the Beatles changed the world. So, who was the most significant?
  3. Do you own a passport? When was the last time you used it?
  4. Have you read or heard if the Immel report came out to the public yet? Or has that been properly swept under the rug?
  5. Who is your favorite WDH writer? I like Rob, but with longevity, I really like Keith.

    1. My morning ritual: Suck down a can of Diet Mountain Dew…I am trying to kick this ‘habit’ before it feeds my brain tumor, but that is it for now (there is something addictive about that stuff!) I too am losing weight so I stick to the diet, at least it’s 0 calorie (it only feeds the tumor)

    2. Beatles, yeah…I also had a big thing for Led Zeppelin for a long time. So many others…Allman Bros…CSN & Y, gosh a lot of ‘em. Question is, when will Rock & Roll be replaced by something completely new? Is Hip Hop it?

    3. Yes..well I guess it’s expired now. I last used it in 1994 on a trip to Australia & New Zealand to study abroad as a student at Macquarie Uni in Sydney. What a hell of a good time that was!!

    4. NOPE, I have no idea what this is. I plead ignorance on this one

    5. Wausau Daily Herald? Not sure, don’t read that paper, I’m out of town. Uhhh, I guess you can’t go wrong with aguy named Rob, can you?

    1. McDonald’s Ice Tea w/extra ice and sweet low ….It gives me the morning jolt of caffeine and doesn’t have the calories that their regular sweet tee has.

    2. More southern rock…Lynrd Skynrd, Creedance….

    3. Just got one a month or so ago…heading to the Carribean for 10 days of R&R….may never come back.

    4. No idea…

    5. No real preference

    1. Get up at 5, work out, shower, drink coffee and read the paper online…

    2. This is a toughie. In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that my musical tastes have never really veered into the “significant.” However, I have an appreciation and awareness of bands that, even though I don’t necessarily listen to them, I can appreciate their place in history. I can’t debate that the Beatles are the band that was most successful at redefining themselves and evolving throughout time, so their body of work is amazing and reflective of what was going on in the world. I also believe consideration should be given to the Clash…

    3. Have never had a passport.

    4. Haven’t heard “boo” from it, but I assume any open records request should get your hands on it. If the government paid the bill, it should be accessible to us.

    5. I like Rob as well, but Keith Uhlig wrote a nice article about my Great-Grandmother when she turned 100 about 6 years ago. It meant a lot to my family, and I actually e-mailed him to thank him for it, so he has a special spot on my faves list.

    1. (a.m. ritual) Again, in the fine words of Dire Straits, “coffee and nicotine for breakfast just to put me right.” and plenty of coffee.

    2. (band) The Velvet Underground. The Beatles talked about love, The VU talked about the deviance that was. If LaMont Young was a rock band he would win. He was just odd instead.

    3. (passport) Never had one, wish I needed one.

    4. (scandal) Wausau sweeps everthing under the rug. It needs to look perfect.

    5. (WDH) I like Rob, even though he won’t follow me on Twitter and appears to be a Cubs fan.

Bonus: Yes, that is a great idea.

    1. Cigarette, Guitar, Shower in that order.

    2. As far as the most influential, going way back, Elvis or Carl Perkins.

    3. No passport.

    4. Never heard of it. Probably don’t care.

    5. Props to Keith.

    1. Pick up baby. Start coffee maker. Get my online world going again. Eat a bowl of oatmeal sometime before ten.

    2. How pitiful is it that I don’t really have an opinion on this? I’ve always appreciated Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I’m not a huge Beatles fan (sorry). Rock n roll? Not really my speed. I go more for the acoustic stuff.

    3. Let’s see. That would be 2003 or 2004. I went to the Bahamas with an ex (who was an ex at the time). Way more fun than you would think.

    4. Haven’t read it or tried to read it. Isn’t everybody from the original scandal departed from the scene? Does that make it irrelevant?

    5. How terrible is it that I don’t pay attention to who write the stuff I read? The only one I know is Rob. I vote for him because he has awesome hair.

    3. Yes. 9 years ago this week. I used to carry it with me all the time.
    4. I continue to be disappointed that it has not been made public.
    5. I always look forward to Rob and Keith.

    1. Rush through a shower and breakfast and pour my coffee into a travel mug because I have hit snooze too many times and am going to be late.

    2. It’s the Beatles. The Beatles are awesome. But I don’t know, “most significant” is weird, and only knowable a lot later. It could be Radiohead. Or Jay-Z or Kanye West.

There was a moment in time when the Beach Boys were the most significant band of all time, and sometimes I like to revisit that time.

    5. No contest — I am my favorite WDH writer by far! But look out for this young boy Brian Reisinger, he is an up and comer. And I occasionally envy DJ his city hall beat. But must say I am appalled by the amount of love Uhlig is getting here. I must make sure he NEVER sees this thread…

Also, Insert Name, who are you? I want to follow you on twitter…

    1. Lie in bed until guilt overwhelms me, then reluctantly get up and stumble to the kitchen for some OJ. God help whoever tries to talk to me before my morning OJ. Then make pancakes for Owen (the only breakfast food the little tyrant will eat), get Emma a bowl of cereal, feed dog & let him out. Shower. Eat cereal.

    2. Jeez Dino, why don’t you just ask us the meaning of life? It would be easier to answer. Beatles, Ramones, Clash, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, blah blah blah. It’s impossible to say that one is the MOST signficant.

    3. No. Lame, huh? Being horribly rigid and lacking in spontaneity, I generally dislike travel.

    4. Huh?

    5. I always like Rob’s blog, and I’m not just saying that because he’s posting here. I’ve never really followed this Keith fellow, but judging from the responses here I should probably start.

    1. [morning ritual] Snooze, check e-mail and Twitter on my Moto, shower, coffee.
    2. [rock and roll band of all time] Impossible question.
    3. [passport] Yes. London tour, Thanksgiving 2006
    4. [Immel report] At peace with the cover up. That is what politics are supposed to do: Create controversy.
    5. [WDH writer] Prefer Amy Ryan, but she’s Everest Herald. Sue me.

    2. Motley Crue.
    3. No passport. Never seen an ocean either.
    4. Never heard of this.
    5. Rob.

Can anyone explain to me in a nutshell how the heck to access the new WDH forums? I can read them, but when I click to reply, I get brought to a page where there is absolutely NOWHERE that I can register, etc. Very frustrating. jessha@aspirus.org Tx!

I’ll try to get back into the community here:

    1. The three S’s are a must for me. Then a can of Rockstar or Monster (sugar free of course) and I’m ready to conquer the world.

    2. I would have to go with The Velvet Underground or The Pixies. While not as popular as a lot of the other groups mentioned here, almost anyone that listened to those groups when they were still making music started a band. And those bands changes the scope of rock forever.

    3. I have a passport, needed one to apply to LFS. Haven’t used it yet though.

    4. Swept thoroughly, I have not heard of it.

    5. I’ll conform with everyone else and go with Rob, although Dave Slater is a great guy too.
