The Waiting Game (Immel Report)
The wait for the official Immel report is now over as Citizen Wausau has recently received a copy of the document. In case some of you forgot, Mike Morrissey retired, and Kristen Fish resigned from the Community Development Authority office in the past few months. Allegations were made by Wendy Jasurda, a former employee. An investigation happened and then was suddenly back page news.
This document is the report that Mr. Immel compiled and sent to the city. It is a fascinating document in many regards, and we hope you read it thoroughly. It sheds light on the …
My Ten Favorite Wausau Musical Moments.
Just so that we can get it out of the way, I am not going to include BB King or Aretha Franklin in this list. To say that Aretha and BB King are a tie for the best thing I have ever seen, well, that is like saying that the sky is full of clouds, and Nazis are bad. It just is true for me. The fact that the Grand Theatre was able to have something like that, then that is simply the sign that the Grand is an amazing place to be.
So, this list is not supposed to be your list. This is my list. I might have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time at a music venue, or work on a lot of shows, and maybe you have not seen some of this, or maybe I have not seen some of the things you think are better. I think that Wausau has a very significant musical history, and as a result, I wanted to share some of them with you.
Rethinking the Food We Eat
The transformation is slow and multifaceted, but we’re leaning more towards vegetarianism.
In January, we realized how much calorie-dense crap we were eating. We stopped eating take-out so many times a week, doubling our grocery budget, but evening out in the end.
Around the time of my surgery in April, we loosened the reins on our wellness plan. I couldn’t work out, I was feeling sorry for myself a lot, and we ate a lot of comfort food and avoided the gym. We’ve maintained our weight loss, but we haven’t dipped down again since then. I suppose if I would eliminate the …
Six Questions That Are Better Than Pie
It’s my first time throwing together six questions to entertain and stimulate you, and I’m a little nervous. First date jitters, I guess. You’ll forgive me if they are lame, right? Just smile and nod and play along, and everything will be okay.
1. What do you immediately think about when you hear the phrase, “Yes We Can?”
2. How fast do you drive over the speed limit? I’m always surprised at the docile, gentle people I know who are maniacs behind the wheel. Do you have a set threshold that you won’t go past? Or do you just try to get …
Is Wausau Gonna Play Ball, Er What?
The other day, a WDH front page news article caught my eye — dealt with the Wisconsin Woodchucks and Wausau’s Athletic Park. Gist of the article was that the team’s contract with the city expires after next season, and unless the city agrees to step up to the plate (sorry) to pay for significant updates at the ballpark, the team might face a need to relocate. I’m thinking: Remember when there was a Milwaukee Braves team and Atlanta stole them away? Broke my 13-year-old heart. Still hurts today, Brewers and all.
Ode To A Cheeseburger
I had the best bacon cheeseburger today. It had a ton of bacon, a thick patty of beef, and a soft Kaiser roll. It was hot and juicy and I believe it to be the best bacon cheeseburger I’ve ever had. Now here’s where it gets a bit odd. I wasn’t at Applebee’s, The Back-When Café, or other established Wausau eateries. No, it came from Town Line Market.
I grew up here, but it was only a year ago that a co-worker turned me on to this little treasure on Town Line Road. Known to me mostly as a small grocer …
