Fall is my favorite time of the year. There’s something inherently romantic about the trees turning colors, the weather cooling down, and every day being jeans and sweatshirt weather. Halloween is just a week away, and then comes the slide to Thanksgiving and Christmas (or whatever holiday celebrations are had during this time). I always look at Halloween as the last hurrah for the tolerable weather.
Also, I seem to have heard something about Citizen Wausau having a birthday in October. I also recall something about a meet-up at Malarkey’s on Oct. 30…that being said…
1. I remember fondly my time trick-or-treating as a child. It started at 5 and went until 9 pm, and it was always on Halloween. My friends and I ran around our neighborhood until our bags were brimming with candy. So many things have changed since then and I’m wondering if you prefer doing trick-or-treat on the actual date of Halloween, or the day or weekend before? How long should trick-or-treating last?
2. I’m kind of a coward, and as such, have never really been a haunted house kind of guy. What about you? If you are, what is the best one you’ve seen?
3. On the other hand, I really dig horror and scary movies. I’ve seen every Friday the 13th, every Halloween, and every Saw movie. I think the best horror movie I’ve seen is the original Nightmare on Elm Street. The best thriller I’ve seen is Seven. What’s the best one you’ve ever seen?
4. What is your stance on candy corn? What about the peanut butter toffee wrapped in the orange and black wrappers? I believe these are polarizing candies and were grounds for a serious toilet-papering in my neighborhood.
5. I believe that neighborhood location can make or break trick-or-treating. How is the trick-or-treating in your neighborhood? Do you “bus” your kids to other neighborhoods to trick-or-treat because the treats are better? Describe your best “haul” trick or treating.

1. which day to T&T: On Halloween absolutely! That’s the night that the ghouls come out, isn’t it?
2. best haunted house I’ve seen: A real one.
3. best scary / horror movie: Frankenstein (Boris Karloff)
4. candy: Candy corn is only good when you mix it with salty peanuts. Peanut butter toffee is great when it’s soft and chewy … horrible when it’s hard and brittle.
5. our neighborhood: A T&T destination. We get hundreds at our door. My favorite treat is Jane’s spicy homemade Texas chili consumed on the porch as candy is handed out.
Bonus: Favorite Halloween album: Freak Out by The Mothers of Invention.

1. Dusk is the best time, and definitely on Halloween.
2. Green Bay had a pretty good one a few years back.
3. Hellraiser, or any of the old black and white horror movies.
4. Candy Corn is the bane of trick or treaters.
5. There was always the house that would give out 50 cent pieces to all the kids, we’d try and hit that one up twice a year.

Hellraiser is a great choice. I watched “The Strangers” last night and could hardly sleep.

1. Has to be on Halloween. Dusk until 7 is good.
2. The one I was in when the old (original) Wausaqua water ski team did one in the 1980s. We got permission to use an abandoned house (nearly condemned) in Schofield. We had the whole house, upstairs, main floor and basement. Andy Zynda was the brains behind it. He rigged up a sound system thru the entire house and lighting and we made props for every room. We could literally do anything to the house. Upstairs we had one guy covered in blood that would half fall out of the ceiling when people walked by. There were screams from every room and the lines to get into the house were blocks long every night. It was freakin’ awesome!
3. Frankenweenie.
4. Candy corn and peanut butter toffee remind me of my grandparents. It’s a warm fuzzy, but I don’t seek out the stuff.
5. My neighborhood is pretty good and lots of punked out houses…especially mine. It’s fun to get into the theme. But I wish kids could go where ever they wanted to and not feel afraid of what was in their “haul”. Store to store in the mall is great for younger kids.

1. I used to love trick or treating. My mother made these custom cannibal outfits and we would actually have a pre-planned canvas of the neighborhood prepared in advance.
The last time was 1988. Since then I have never gone, and keep my lights off most years.
2. I subscribe to the cowards theory. Totally not my thing in the least.
3. Oh god, I hate horror flicks.
4. I consider candy korn to be of a lower class of handout candy. Even a pixie stick blows it away. What is totally lame is getting an apple or a nickel.
5. Ours was pretty simple. Dress up, hit the door, start banging on houses. Pretty plug and play.

1~Trick or Treat ON Halloween and a for longer hours. The day is plagued with urban legends. Well I NEVER was at risk for Halloween abduction considering I was not blonde haired and blue eyed.
2~A friend and I went through an abandoned farmhouse once. I don’t think we were supposed to be there. I was at the Whaley House in San Diego and it is considered to be the most haunted house in the US. I took pictures and there were interesting plumes of smokey light in them. You be the judge.
3~No Country For Old Men is probably the most frightening movie I have ever seen. I watched it alone and was scared every moment.
4~Not a fan of either of those candies but I never toilet papered anyones house because that is what they gave.
5~I don’t have any children to take trick or treating. I remember a couple years of going to different neighborhoods because we would trick or treat with family friends.
