Questions that Jingle, Jangle and Jiggle

by Cheryl Mathis on November 21st, 2008

I know it’s premature, but I’m totally getting into the holiday spirit already. I’m trying very hard to resist putting up our Christmas tree so soon. After all, it’ll be the first Christmas when my daughter can grab stuff off of the tree, and I’m not sure I want to give myself another chore to be doing all day long, ie. keeping her away from the tree.

1. The cold weather has arrived. It’s not bitterly cold yet, but it’s still a shock. What activities have you had to halt because of the chilly weather?

2. I was singing Jingle Bells while walking through Sam’s Club last night. Sometimes I forget that not everyone makes their life into a musical, and I’m refreshingly oblivious to people’s irritation or giggles in response to my outward happiness. What is your favorite holiday carol? Or do you avoid Christmas music at all costs?

3. I misplace my keys at least four times a week. I’m always asking The Husband for his keys because I’ve lost mine. It’s not a big deal because we only have one car, but I know he gets annoyed. I think maybe if I had a bigger keychain with lots of fun things on it, I wouldn’t lose them as often. What is on your keychain?

4. A while back, I posted a couple videos in various places online with me and/or my family dancing like the dancing fools we are. I was ripping off the bandaid as far as forcing myself to relax in online videos are concerned. Later, I heard from a friend that a lot of people had felt embarrassed for me when they saw the video. *gulp* Part of me was horrified, but the other part told myself that it doesn’t matter, that many other people were delighted by it. The question is… have you ever made an idiot out of yourself online? How?

5. And finally… how do you feel about dogs wearing clothes? I always used to mock people who would dress up their dogs. How ridiculous! They have fur coats! That is until we got Molly, our Boston Terrier. As soon as the temperature dropped below 40 degrees, she started shivering and snorting when she went outside. She’d rush to do her business and then pull to get back inside the nice warm house where she’d plop down in front of a heating vent. Now for walks, we’re putting little sweaters on her, but they don’t help that much. I think we’ll have to get her a jacket. She doesn’t like walking on the cold concrete either, so maybe we’ll have to get her some booties. Are we being silly? Have you ever known a dog who is reticent to go out in the cold?

    1. Lawn-mowing!
    2. I try to avoid it until December, Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet!
    3. A Multi-tool, a wrench for broadheads, bottle opener, keys.
    4. No comment, you’ll have to use Google and find out for yourself!
    5. You are not being silly. Everyone with an impractical dog has to take such measures.

    1) Sadly I may have shot the last round of golf until the spring. It was 78 degrees on the 21st (last Wed) and now I am thinking about wearing having to wear a jacket. 46 degrees at 8 a.m. is terrible.

    2) “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. . . ” and though it may not be a “traditional” Christmas tune, it certainly does lift my lip into a sneer.

    3) 3 keys and a carabiner. And as was mentioned about mocking dog owners who dress their dogs, let us unite to mock those with yard sales on their key rings.

4)The whole blog fad made idiots out of many of us. Like lambs to the slaughter. . .

    5) Yes, dressing dogs is silly. Boutique clothing for dogs that will match their owners is another sign of The End.

    1. I miss our nightly walks. I know we can still walk outside in the winter, but it’s a lot more work to get out there. Before, we’d walk for a mile or two before going back inside. Now? We make it a few blocks before we retreat back to the warmth of the house.

    2. I’m always singing Jingle Bells, but my favorite carol is Oh Come Immanuel.

    3. 3 keys and a couple grocery store member cards.

    4. I’m always making a fool out of myself.

    5. I think dressing dogs is ridiculous. But I’m buying a winter jacket for my Boston.

    1. I miss my bike, because I have had to stop riding it most days because I can never make it home before it gets dark out.
    3. Just keys, and a carabiner.
    5. My roomate has a small dog because we live in an apartment, and the dog has a sweatshirt he wears in the winter because he is always shivering, and doesn’t like to come out of his pile of blankets in the winter, except to beg for food.

    1. I don’t do anything much outside anyways, so not has changed except a taxi ride home from work more often.

    2. I don’t have a favorite Christmas carol. I do not like to hear them. I will not like them until someone like Lemmie records one. I do not like Christmas… and I’m not the only one.

    3. House key on a carabiner.

    4. Didn’t take enough time to think before getting into an agruement on a forum or blog would be the extent of my embarassing computer moves I guess.

    5. Silly thing to do for any pet. I saw a freakin’ CAT with a sweater kind of thing on a day or two ago.

Re #5. Having seen replies here and chatted with the yokels at work, the answer would be to get a dog suited to the local conditions. You buy clothes, vehicles, pretty much everything with local conditions in mind. Why not a dog? More thought is required before subjecting another creature to discomfort.

That said, if the dog is uncomfortable, make it wear something.

    1. Well of course my gardening. However, there are some things I refuse to give in to because of the weather….the granddaughter & I still go outside and swing in the moonlight…we just dress a lot warmer. We will still do that when it’s 10 below. Priorities, ya know.

    2. Christmas Canon makes me tear up.

    3. My keychain is pretty hefty…car keys, house keys, garage keys, keys for my kid’s houses & brothers house, keys to get into work, into file cabinets, into file rooms, into safe boxes…if keys were money I’d be rich. I also have a “perks” card and a keychain from Intercourse, Missouri because a friend thought that was funny.

    4. I kind of assume that everytime I answer these questions people are reading them & going “what an idiot she is”. By the way, I saw you and the little guy dancing, and I thought it was great.

    5. If I am a dog in my next life, please provide me with a really cool jacket…I will appreciate it.

    1. I’ve had to halt going outside.

    2. About the only xmas song I like is the 12 days of hassles or whatever that song is. “Fine, you think you’re so smart, you hang up the lights!”

    3. Keys.

    4. Not on video, but I’m sure somewhere on here at least.

    5. Some dogs can get frostbite on there footpads quite easily without protection, whether they are “suitable for the environment” or not. Just putting that out there.
