I was just hoping you had something to say about
I was just hoping you had something to say about…
It looks like the cold is right around the corner, next week is back to a few days that never get above zero. Great, so now where will I use my snowshoes? On Facebook, my friend Adrian baked some bread, and the photos alone look warm. That being said, I was just wondering the following:
1. Which local television news program do you prefer? Channel 7, 9, 12, or whatever number Fox is? Why? Do you think we are moving away from locally produced news coverage?
2. What do you do on the cold snap week we have annually? For me, I am thrilled. I spend as much of it as I can outside. It seems like the only time a year that my Carhartt jacket is ever needed.
3. A young man died on Granite Peak this week. It is safe to say that it is inherently a dangerous activity. What do you do that is dangerous?
4. Are you going to the Sunspot show this weekend?
5. How many things have you purchased specifically because they were waterproof?
6. Looking back on 2008, what are you most proud of our city for doing? Not just the government, but as a whole? But let us throw the government in there too, what are you most proud of them for doing?
7. What are you most disappointed in the Wausau area in regards to 2008? What are you most disappointed in the City Council for?
8. What are you looking forward to the most from the region? From the City Council?
9. What are you most fearful about in 2009?

3. Leaving the house and interacting with people.
4. Nope
5. Are fish waterproof?
6-8. No comment
9. Smoking ban in bars

1. Channel 9. I sometimes travel with the producer.
2. I usually make chili, but I just froze a supply last weekend, so I need a different plan. I like slow roast something in the oven so it’s on for hours on end. Maybe it’s time for a turkey.
3. I become more conservative about dangerous things all the time. I would say I’m down to just about nothing.
4. Don’t Sunspot shows mess up the cable reception?
5. “Are fish waterproof?” is a fun question that seems worthy of Steven Wright. I like it. Answer: only live ones. As for the original question, I like Gortex.
9. My greatest fear for 2009 is that it will be an extension of 2008 in terms of the economy and unemployment.

1. I never really watch local coverage, unless someone tells me about a specific segment to watch. I think we are moving away from local coverage because of accessibility. The nightly network shows are loosing viewers as well. I feel this is because almost everyone has cable or internet, so they can get the news they want, when they want it. I think as a society in generally we are getting to a point that we want answers NOW for everything. People are getting less patient in generally. I too am guilty of this-on occasion.
2. I drink whiskey, and listen to live music INSIDE. I have geared my life to never have a reason to go in the cold.
3. I’m still young enough to be invincible-i hope.
4. Not likely, although I have heard great things about the band, they will be coming downtown in late March.
5. Glasses?
6. I get to meet people everyday that aren’t from Wausau, I am proud to hear them say the like the downtown area, and despite what critics say, I am happy we continue to make vast improvements to the city. Although I feel at times we are a little to conservative and slow to make changes (is that redundant?) I like the long term concepts this city government is working with.
7. I would have to say the lack of communication about the construction on 3rd street (and downtown in general) planned for some time this summer/fall. I would like to be able to start saving for that rainy day, and even though I co-own one of several businesses that will be affected by this, no one from the city has dropped by, called, or even sent a letter. I found out about the whole thing from over-hearing it, then I started asking questions-and so far I have received no answers.
I know of two business that closed downtown recently, and one of the determining factors was that they didn’t want to fight the construction again. It’s hasn’t even been a year since Jefferson Street was closed (for a year and a half) and now 3rd Street will be closed this fall (which in my 8 years of working downtown experience) is the time people start coming back after summer vacations, and start shopping, eating, and taking in shows again. It would be nice if (as business owners) we could provide input, consulted, or at least informed of major construction more than a few months ahead of time. Time are tough for all, a heads-up would help.
8. I hope the city in general keeps people in the area interested in Wausau. Granite Peak does a great job of this, as does the Grand Theater, and a lot of other great events held in our town. It helps everyone on some level.
9. Locally, I guess not too much. I hope we can all pull together and ride this mess out.

Thanks Jim,
I’ve been asking for a few months, I’ll call him on Monday.
Seriously, I have heard rumors I will loose front door access to my business from time to time during the project, and if that’s the case (I am assuming these are rumors) I need to know how to schedule bands and staff. I will call him and pass the info to my neighbors downtown.
Thanks again,
Tyler

1. I watch 9 in the morning because I have a crush on Justin Loew. I love his blog. And I guess I watch 9 at night as well, mostly because I like the nightly news program on ABC better than what is offered on other stations. Maybe I have a crush on Charlie Gibson as well. I hope local coverage never goes away. The newspapers might, but I think local news will stay, especially considering that they are smartly providing online content as well.
2. For the cold snap, I wear a sweater and slippers all day long in my house. I also avoid hanging out near exterior walls. As for going outside, I would normally eschew the mention of it, but we have a dog now, so we’ll have to go out at least 4 times a day. Poor Molly. She hates it when it is in the teens. She’s going to go into shock when it’s below zero and she has to squat her privates down towards the cold, cold ground.
3. I take part in very few dangerous activities, as a rule. Going down the little waterslides at the Lodge was hard enough for me.
4. Too late, and no. I work on the weekends nowadays.
5. Waterproof. Um. Bath toys?
9. By far I am concerned most with unemployment. It terrifies me, and I’ve lost sleep.

I enjoyed watching the holiday news broadcast on Ch 9-the dark haired weather woman was so bad she made me uncomfortable and itchy. I think I love her.
2) Sitting in chacago right now on my way back to Dallas–this cold snap of a 2 day trip allowed me to smoke less. I didn’t bring a jacket. Normally I just complain if it drops below 45 in a Tom Waits melancholy voice.
3)I am currently in training for the smoking Olympics (winter games). The event is not yet sanctioned, but when it is I hope my headstart will qualify me for the good-ol’-US of A.
5) Current footwear-Ariat boots. Rugged, brown repellers of water, whiskey, and cow shit.
9) 2009 will bring the 18th birthday of my only child. Fear lives in the unpredictable nature of her young adult decisions and indecisions.

1. Channel 9 is my favorite.
2. Cold weather is clarifying. I look forward to these temperatures with fear and anxiousness. It is a serious thing. Twenty-five degrees below zero is not something very many humans ever experience.
3. Driving. Driving in bad weather. I am careful doing both, but I still do them, and they are dangerous.
5. Few. I believe I did purchase a marital aid for the reason that it was waterproof. But that is none of your business.
9. Easy: Losing my job. Don’t know if you have heard, but times are hard in the newspaper business.

1. I am a die-hard TV9 guy, all the way back to my younger days with Beth Zurbachen and Dan Needles on sports…I think there will always be a need for local flavor in the news coverage. At least I hope so. It keeps me grounded about the community I live in.
2. I don’t really change my activities very much. I tend to stay indoors, so as to not expose the kids to the elements.
3. I hang out with Dino…Danger personified.
4. Had no clue they were in town.
5. Boots, jackets, and the like.
6. I can’t say that I have a feeling of pride for much my city and government has done.
7. I wasn’t a big fan the way the whole Women’s Community situation went down. And it goes back to the NIMBY post Cheryl wrote. Check it out if you haven’t seen it.
9. That the economy will continue to stall and have a more direct influence on my family. My greatest fear as a husband and father is the inability to provide for my family…

1. Channel 9, without a doubt. They have a very professional broadcast. I’m a CNN & MSNBC junkie, but I always go back to channel 9 for the local stuff, and if we lose the local stuff, we lose big time.
2. Cold snap? What cold snap? We Wisconsinites laugh at the cold. Business as usual.
3. At my age, rolling over in my sleep can be dangerous and cause injury.
4. Sunspot?
5. Can’t think of anything waterproof. Spillproof maybe.
6. We have an amazing amount of selfless, giving, generous people here…people that see need and fulfill it. I’m pretty proud of us for that.
7. The NIMBY mentality. Shame on us.
8. I’d like to see more group hugs.
9. More hungry or in distress kids.

1. I like all the TV station personalities…what I find lacking is editorializing - presenting a rational case for some course of action…when I was a kid I remember tv news editorial spots frequently enough…why would the Daily Herald deserve a monopoly on editorializing but not the TV stations?
3. I ride my bike in Wausau…this community has been regressive in providing a safe environment to cycle…
6. a lot of good stuff going on…too much to even name…
9. don’t be ridiculous - I say bring it…I have complete faith that we’ll overcome these challenges…it’s only in times of chaotic adversity that we witness the true strength of love and reason…
