Atta Boy VFW

by Dino Corvino on August 6th, 2009

Some of you will recall the smear campaign undertaken to intimidate the Wausau City Council into opposing the Peace Statue someone from the Middle East would like to build and donate to the City of Wausau.

You might recall these letters being sent and the letters allegedly coming from the VFW here in Wausau.  At the time the Quartermaster of the VFW clearly said it did not come from them.

Recently he went further and called this act a cowardly act.  Please see the attachment.

Atta Boy

I would like to applaud the VFW for being brave enough to stand against the shadow forces here in Wausau and their blatant attempt to culturally blame a people and to intimidate your council into action.  Way to go, VFW!

A veterans group being unwittingly dragged in to promote someone else’s political speech in Wausau? It sounds kind of familiar.

The handbill for the third annual Independence Day Celebration on the City Square said it was being presented by “The American Legion and the Wausau Tea Party Patriots.” After learning a bit more about what the celebration actually entailed, the Legion wisely begged off.

I remember when I first heard about the letter… it could not have been further from how the VFW would have handled the matter…

First, the VFW has its own stationary they would have used… next, their position would have been stated in writing with statements to support their decision.

Next, the “shock and awe” methodoligy using intimidation and scare tactics is not how they operate.

The VFW does have strong opionions on a number of issues, some of them controversial. (Some of the official VFW positions on things such as the Flag Burning Amendment are the reason I am not a life-member, I want the ability to show my thoughts on a particular stance by speaking with my feet) However, the VFW will always stand by its opinions and take full credit for its views.

a pet peeve of mine are those who will just throw insults or threats or make arguments for their cause that make no sense whatsover.. and do so anonymously without taking credit for their words, statements, views or opinions…

However, to me… instead of shooting out an anonymous statement, to ship out a statement in a manner that appears to come from someone else.. that is by far much worse and the word used by the VFW in their newsleter… “Coward”… yep.. hits it dead on.

I think that it is amazingly manipulative of groups to use groups like the American Legion or VFW to maximize impact, as if these groups will be fooled by this blatant partisanship and political intimidation.

As if placing a VFW address or American Legion address on something will lead us all to bow to those demands is ONCE AGAIN…creating a wedge issue to intimdate those that will choose to lead us.

This is the worst of our character.
