11 Questions to Avoid Tempting the Wrath of Whatever From High Atop the Thing
I am upset today. Mad at the actual internet, the tubes, the whole nine yards. It’s not a truck, and as a result people just talk and talk and talk. So, Sarah Lacy, from me to you I thought your interview was really great. Its just more of the same. As if Tipple versus Hadley was not enough, now people I enjoy are ripping on people I really respect for being interesting.
Sigh. Web 2.0, when will it stop being about you?
- Were you happy with the outcome of the election? The Mayoral election seems to be interesting, and more important what …
13 Questions as Bootsy Collins Rattles the Plaster Off My Walls
I have come down. Truly. The Easter Weekend was the mighty Scott Holt weekend up north, and from that I finally have returned to Earth. I did not have voice, so I could not record anything at work, and as a result spent a whole week reading.
Tonight, the walls shake, the dog looks on me with a pained expression of self knowledge, and I dance. I dance the dance of release. The dance that brings it all around to 1991, and a joy for life that I have longed for. The big-brained super discussion from the past today, the collaboration …
6 Questions While Listening to Nine Inch Nails Far Too Loud
I am getting to these Wednesday evening. My lips are chapped, and my legs are tired. But the amazing glide of Trent Reznor is filling my head, and I am glad I saw this band as many times as I have.
- Have you decided who you’re going to vote for, for Mayor, for City Council, for County Board? Does the recent story about the email from Mr. Kluz as reported in the Wausau Daily Herald affect your choice?
- Have you been in the new Dudley Tower yet? I was talking to Al Post at his book shop, and I told him that …
9 Questions While Watching TS Elliot Kick Ezra Pounds Butt
I am feeling quite lonely today. Existentially lonely, to be more specific. Wondering if it matters, wondering what I am doing anything for, questioning the whole ball of wax really. It happens from time to time – we sit, and we wonder. Sometimes this wonder lasts for years; sometimes I just need about 30 minutes of quiet alone time. But it happens. It might happen to you. Might not. You might be blessed. I tend to think I am blessed, but every now and again I sigh and think about Jeff Buckley and wonder what the point of that was. …
Seven Questions written in hiding in the Library One Afternoon
I have found that the longer I go unplugged from the world of cyberspace, the better things get for me. We have a rule up north: no laptops (unless you’re a musician from outside of Wisconsin, then we understand). We try to let you do your business, but eventually we encourage you to put it away. I try that on weekends, and it really works well. Sitting in the library reminds me that ideas are often the best when they are on paper, not on a screen. I remember in college carrying around giant anthologies, …
11 Questions While Waiting for Tea to Cool
I admit it, I am feeling a little disheartened this morning. I have been having problems buying a pair of sneakers, and have ended up with like 3 pairs that just don’t feel right. I just want a casual pair of sneakers! For the most part I buy from Dwellers, but the shop is sort of in between seasons so they are a bit sparse on the options. So I went off the beaten path and bought some other shoes, and they were a half size too big but I did not check at first; my fault. …
16 Questions from a Vegan Sneaker Purchaser
So again, it is left up to me. Sigh. Here I sit, wondering about some stuff, but not really thinking about it too much, after all I am getting a new tattoo today. So that is nice, but often I am left to wonder…
- What do you think Sidney Poitier thinks everytime he see Eddie Murphy in that fat woman suit? Does race and the discussion of race matter in Wausau? Are the Hmong people (and that is an umbrella term I suppose in Wausau) the primary form of diversity?
- I have heard of this band Freedown, and was wondering if anyone …
21 Questions from the Slumberland of Large Fleece Jackets
To my esteemed colleagues here at Citizen Wausau I say this…from time to time, it sadly falls upon my shoulders to put forth a shovel full of questions. These questions while seeming entirely random, and aiming in no directions, I can assure you are often pointed toward a finish line. While this finish line might be abstract, and only in my imagination, it is most certainly something I am kind of aware of, at least on one of the many levels of chakra consciousness. Though, I have not had a real chance to cleanse myself through any …
First Tracks in 2008
As I sit here on this New Year’s morning, lost in the love of my keyboard, I am faced with questions, and answers, and predictions, and more questions. So I thought I would jump in the pool first, and be the first idiot to take on our virtual Polar Bear Plunge of 2008. A veritable cacophony of randomness brought on by long hours of no work, loss of mental stimulation, and overall sitting still for way too long.
What Happened to III on Third Street?
You know, this is really a bit depressing.
First it was Kelly’s. Then it was Kelly’s, only this time it was the Murdochs’ venture. Then it was Kelly’s again, but back to the old owner.
Most recently it became III. My wife and I have spent many evenings there meeting with friends, listening to music or just having a quiet drink together. It’s one of the few smoke-free establishments downtown.
So you can imagine my shock today when I strolled past III on Third today. There’s paper in …
