I sometimes think that we miss out on a lot of human interaction. Nothing specific, but in general. A sort of general missing out, a quiet missing out. Not a big deal, but nevertheless, we miss out. I do not know what makes me think that rowing in a rowboat will make it better, but I know for a fact I have a better chance to meet a girl that way than I do at the grocery store.

1. As you look at the environment, what is your biggest concern? I mean let us all assume we are going to live to be 200, what changes NEED to be made? I think the fact that we are all going to die, and won’t really be able to get yelled at by the people that we are screwing over, is our only reason for keeping on the way we are. For me, I thought about Kleenex this morning. Oily, lotion-soaked, pieces of paper. I am going to buy a handkerchief. I do not know where they are, but I am going to go look.

2. Have you ever gone to the ear doctor? As a music dude, I have gone a few times. I even had a pair of prescription earplugs made a decade ago. Do you take care of your ears? What part of your body do you think you have done the most damage to?

3. I accidentally shaved my head a bit ago, after taking too many Advil PM. Please, let us not have an intervention. What is the worst hair cut you ever got? I have two, one time I went to the Beauty College, because I had a crush on a girl and she flirted with me and I went, and she shaved my beard and I had a mustache, like a cop. I looked so silly. The other was college, and I do not want to talk about it.

4. Have you gone swimming yet?

I went last night [on Monday] and sat in on the steering team meeting for the Commission for a Greener Tomorrow. This is a citizen led group that is focused on promoting sustainable living in central Wisconsin. (more…)

The Wausau Freecycle Network »

by DeeDee Meyer on November 20th, 2007

Recently, I read online that Americans toss 195 tons of garbage every year. That amounts to over 1400 pounds a year per person, a staggering statistic, and landfill space is at a premium. The obvious answer to this problem is to reduce, reuse, and recycle much more efficiently than we ever have before. That’s where Wausau’s Freecycle Network is making a difference. The Freecycle Network is a nationwide movement dedicated to encouraging recycling, one that goes beyond simple trash sorting. The group seeks to reduce waste by encouraging members to offer their unwanted items up for grabs rather than adding to the ever increasing mounds of garbage in our landfills. The Wausau chapter of the Freecycle Network boasts over 1000 members to date. Whether you’re looking to clean out the clutter or you’re in search of a used item, you can post information on the network boards and find the connection you’re looking for. Whether it’s a piano, tv, fax machine, computer, book or even a used orthodontic retainer (no kidding!) – there’s a home waiting for your stuff. The main rule? Everything must be free. There is no trading, no compensation, and no exceptions to the rule. So far, I’ve given away a washing machine, a dvd player, an old car stereo, and even a broken printer. On the flip side, I’ve received a wonderful card table and a computer desk for my husband. Anyone can join, and non-profits are welcome to post their needs as well. So, in the interest of saving our planet, I’d like to challenge each of you to look around today and find that one thing that you’ve been meaning to throw away, and post it on Freecycle instead.
