My Journey Back to Health  Hoping that all the years of fun might be reversible

My return to Health

by Dino Corvino on November 2nd, 2007

Some of you know me, and some of you don’t know me.  I am going to be making some assumptions in the beginning here, and starting in at the beginning.

Over the past decade, I have gained a lot of weight.  I am probably in that morbidly obese catergory, and as a result my health is at risk.  I have recently started a program at the Aspirus Clinic here in Wausau to manage my weight loss, and return me to some of the health from before.   This is a Doctor and Nutritionist managed program that I hope to link up to this blog in as many possible ways as webmaster Andy can come up with.

My goal is to weigh 200 pounds at Christmas of 2008.  Some of you might be shocked at that number, but the fact is that is a significant Jared like weight loss.  I have not discussed this goal with my doctor, but I think that as we go further along I hope that goal will turn out to be realistic.

Recently I went through the testing with my new doctor, Dr. Paulson.  I think between his care, and the care of the staff I will be in good hands.

For me, this blog is intended to sort of deal with the shame that comes with the weight.  I have a sense that my life should not be hidden, and that in order to be accountable I need to be standing in the light of day when I do things.  So I am here, fat, sad, depressed…and struggling to get back to it.

I want to be able to write something about being an example for other fat folks, but honestly…who knows if that will be a good thing.  Just recently I had someone point out to me that I might be selfish and manipulative.  Yeah, but I am also fat.  With a real desire to be healthy.

So, thanks a lot for your encouragement.  The motivation for this comes from reading something my good friend Jason wrote, about the politics of weight.  Thanks Jason.

Hey Dino … I’m excited about this effort of yours. It will be awesome to read about (and see) your progress. I know yo know this sort of thing is gradual, and lots of people lose patience, thinking they’re not seeing dramatic change, or if they’re experiencing ups and downs in weight. But, the key is to keep track of things, establish a trend and not let up. Let’s go for a walk, man!

Dino, I too think it’s great that you’re committing to this. It will definitely pay off. Best of luck, and when the weather gets warm again we can go for a bike ride.
