We have two events coming up that might be of interest to Central Wisconsin

1 — June 21 — Ride the Bus to the MREA Fair. 

On Saturday, June 21st, you can ride a Lamer’s bus from Wausau to Custer, WI and visit the over 100 exhibits, hear presentations and listen to Jim Hightower, nationally known speaker and author. The bus is being sponsored by the Commission for a Greener Tomorrow and will leave the NTC west parking lot (closest to McDonald’s) at 8:30AM and return about 5:30 PM. The cost for the bus is FREE!! By purchasing your ticket (one day tickets cost $10 for adults and $8 for seniors) at either the Downtown Grocery Store or the Central Wisconsin Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (by Cedar Creek Mall) you can reserve your seat on the bus. Save gas, learn about other ways to save energy at the Fair and relax on the trip down and back.

2 — June 16 and 18 — Residential “Green” Open House–

The Building Committee and Eco-Peak Construction is hosting an open house for their newly constructed home — which has earned the Green Build Home Certification.  By visiting the open house you can find way to make your existing home green, or start a green remodeling project or BUILD your own green Home!!!

The Home is located at 12400 3rd Lane in Hamburg. (Directions: From Hwy 29 take Hwy 107 North to Hwy F.  Go West (left) of F to 3^rd Lane.  Turn South onto 3^rd Lane to home on left side of the street). 

The hours for the Open House–

            Monday, June 16 (5pm to 8pm)

            Wednesday, June 18 (11am to 1pm)

This Saturday the “Commission for a Greener Tomorrow” is hosting a “Free Bicycle Tune-Up Clinic” !!! Rib Mountain Cycle is volunteering one of their technicians to help our Community tune up their bicycles!!!

This weekend “The Commission for a Greener Tomorrow” is hosting a booth at the 32nd Annual Wausau Area Builders Home Show!! Check it out at DC Everest High School Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm!!! Our Buildings Team members will be there to talk about “green buildings”!

The city of Antigo has worked with Focus on Energy over the past several years to find ways to improve the operation and efficiency of government facilities and public areas.  These projects include, but are not limited to: lighting upgrades, boiler and variable frequency drives installations and improvements to the operation of the wastewater and water treatment facilities.

Earth Day is only 136 hours away! Have you made your pledge yet?? There is still time — what are you doing to support “Earth Day or Earth Month”??

    Kronenwetter Police Department monitoring the their fuel usage in their squads; New Day Church has sold over 100 reusable grocery bags; Melissa in Stevens Point is planting a vegetable garden; Matt at Midwest Communications is ensuring his notes for his broadcasts are printed on both sides of the paper; Sushada in Phillips is purchasing a Hybrid vehicle — and so many more!!

Businesses are getting involved in Earth Day Activities also —

    Marathon Electric is selling CFLs for their employees along with a “Green Seminar” for their employees, Samuel’s group is giving tours of their building and doing tree planting with a school group; Wisconsin Public Service is also partnering with few local classes to plant some trees in the community — and so many more things!!

The Green Saturday Event is a Weekend Long Event — “Central Wisconsin Prairie Chicken Festival” —-

Join us to celebrate Central Wisconsin’s Grassland habitats. A truly unique and breathtaking experience. Come to see the Prairie Chicken do its mating dance, to find out what you can do in your backyard to benefit wildlife, see kestrels in their nests or learn from Master Bird banders as they band birds for research. • Chris Schneider, the Hybrid Guru, to bring two alternative fuel vehicles to UWMC, and will show a 15-minute DVD on green cars
• Event is Wednesday, April 9, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and will begin in Room 180
• DVD will be shown, then a Q&A will be held in the parking lot in Marathon Park (weather permitting), where Chris will have the alternative fuel vehicles
• Participants will be able to test drive or take a ride in the vehicles
• One vehicle runs on compressed natural gas and the other runs on electricity
• Event is free and open to the public
• Sponsored by the UWMC Student Government Association as an early Earth Day event
• UWMC is located at 518 South 7th Avenue in Wausau
  

Have you always wanted to test drive a green car? Now’s your chance when the Student Government Association brings the Hybrid Guru to the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County.
 
Chris Schneider, the Hybrid Guru, will bring two alternative fuel vehicles to campus on Wednesday, April 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Schneider will begin with a 15-minute DVD on alternative fuel vehicles, shown in room 180. Weather permitting, questions and answers will be moved to the parking lot in Marathon Park, where the vehicles will be located.
 
These cars of the future will feature one that runs on compressed natural gas and the other that runs on just electricity. Participants will be able to test drive or ride in the vehicles.
 
The “early” Earth Day event is sponsored by the UWMC Student Government and is free and open to the public. UWMC is located at 518 South 7th Avenue in Wausau.
