Again, I think mathew and I are talking fruits, though apples and oranges.
He argues Baby-boomers voted liberal, I argue what they voted for is a lot of Neo-Liberal policies especially economic ones that forced very classical pro corporate conservative agenda like NFATA et al. These policies HAVE help with the destruction of the rain forest, more drilling, more corporate taking over of places like Niger Delta, weakening unions and even bigger (to big to fail) banks. Nice “Liberal” policies, ey?
There is no real left in this county (which most outsiders would consider perhaps Kasinich and left of him). There are plenty of center-right people who would like to consider themselves as liberal... but I would argue that putting 2 million more people in jail, gutting welfare, not getting out of Iraq, still allowing torture by the CIA, dropping bombs in Yeman, Pakistan and increasing troops in Afghanistan after 8 + years of war there is NOT liberal at all. Only more of the same living in the shadows of classical conservative and yes neo-fascist ideology. A “lighter” version of Bush/Chaney geo-political and obvious corporate more of the same policies is NOT Liberal. I'm glad that at least a few (mostly younger peeps) are not buying into the great lie of Con vs Lib in this country and are starting to see they are only two sides of the same wooden nickle.
Call yourself “Liberal” if it makes you feel better. Vote Clinton and Obama's in if it makes you feel better... but then own what you support. These wars are yours now self subscribed liberals. The killing of the Niger Delta and killing of it's villagers are yours too “Liberal” voters... These bigger banks and forecloses are yours Liberals. This joke of, this Insurance industry giveaway is yours Liberals. You voted for it now take some responsibility for a change.

Mike,

I think I read what Matthew wrote, and he did not introduce the things that you brought up. Yet, that is what you answered with.

I find that to be what I was commenting about. But thank you.

The United States Census Bureau considers a baby boomer to be someone born during the demographic birth boom between 1946 and 1964.[9] The Census Bureau is not involved in defining cultural generations.
So that's 64 not 60 as he suggested. There, I address a "FACT" he talked about.

“ …result of policies supported and put in place by conservatives.” Really, NAFTA, CAFTA, Wealth fare 2 million more in jail was put in by a conservative. Well finally there is a little bit of truth squeaking past the propaganda and I’m glad that he acknowledges that Clinton is a conservative and not a liberal.

I always find it interesting about what facts you want answered Dino and the ones you like to ignore.
OK, I don’t really know if he liked the 60’s. He did mention some AMASING things happen in the 60’s so I presumed…
I gave the list of “grievances” that baby boomers supported: NAFTA, CAFTA, Wealth-fare reform and 2 million more people in our jails during the “Liberal” Clinton years. What other facts do you want me to talk about?

Thank you for helping me make my point. Being born in 1963 technically makes me a baby-boomer. And like a lot of baby boomers we voted for Clinton. This is the “liberal” not conservative you’ve suggested that gave us NAFTA, CAFTA did away with wealth fare and put 2 million more people in jail. Being a center-right corporatist does not make you a liberal.
I’m happy to report that like the few progressive thinkers in the country that eventually saw through the BS of Clinton being a “Liberal”, so too is the vast majority of young people that flocked to Obama and now see the system for what it really is.
It is a hard lesson to learn when you always have to vote for the lesser of two evils. The harder lesson that many still need to learn that as long as they keep hoping against hope, keep voting in hopes of change, the change they won’t can not come. This system is fixed and inevitable. And by voting you just support it.

I will simply say that your accusations about liberal baby boomers are not supported by the facts. You wrongly assume that I love the sixites. But you even more wrongly blame the baby boomer generation for the wrongs you list. They are the result of policies supported and put in place by conservatives. And the evidence shows that these conservatives are supported by people older than the baby boomers and by people younger than the baby boomers. Please offer some actual evidence that these ills are the responsibility of the baby boomer generation. Simply spouting a laundry list of the ills you perceive and accusing this generation of being responsible for them without any evidence at all does nothing. To claim there are fewer rain forests does nothing to show that this generation is responsible for depleting the oil resources. On the contrary the evidence exists that the member of this generation have consistently opposed the conservative views and policies tha have lead to these things.

And incidentally, accusing every member of a group born between these years- or even the majority of them - as you do is mere stereotyping and overgeneralization. Please offer some evidence, real evidence, or refrain from these types of bigoted statements. Thanks.

And other question I would ask you matthew is since the your beloved 60's is there less or more rain forests? Is there less or more oil? Do more or less Americans have health Ins? Is the standard of living better or worse since then? Is the class ceiling now shattered? Is there parody in income and family health and wealth for Black families compared to whites? Have we learned to stop optional wars? Are there more or less US military bases in the world? Is there more or less vets as homeless since then?
There have been some improvements... but again, at what expense and is it sustainable? More American's now own their own houses, for now. Wait another year or two and watch as foreclosers rise... There are more women in the work force, but we work longer hours. And we also have the highest jail population per capa in the world... beating even freedom haters like china. Has that gotten better or worse since the 60's?
Ya, big marked charges since then...

I am suggesting that center right politics the liberals seem to tolerate and vote for is not sustainable, and will get us no where.
I've been saying for years that the best Republican they had in recent history is Clinton.:. Wealth far reform, NAFTA, CAFTA, 2million more people in jail... and what did he give the “left”? The economy was better, but at what expense? Now it is very obvious Obama is Clinton on Steroids. And the right and center right will vote again and again, while few progressives there are are always shut out.
Was their some significant changes in the 60's, yes. Would I rather have a beer with a liberal then a conservative, most of the time. But at least conservatives fight for something, and fight back. Liberals like to think they are for something when what I see is a lot of status qou – I got mine mentality; with very little in the way of introspective and a lot of throwing of their hands up... “well that's the best we can do I guess”.
“Give these people a voting day so they can have meaningless choice, meaningless choice so they can go like slaves and say... Ahhh, I voted.” --- George Carlin
