Getting Started
Tonight I am filling my ipod with music. I had to delete it, as we needed it for a recording project at work. It is a great covert recorder, so that was that. I had spent the whole day panicked about it, but it came back and as a result I feel okay. It was a rough day though. So I thought I would start off with something easy.
Often music people spend hours debating the deserted island records or cds. What you would have to have on the island, heck there was a movie that had that as a central theme. But for me, there is always the same cd at number 1, always.
The Stooges-FUNHOUSE
The Stooges ‘Funhouse’ record is simply the most intense, densest 37 minutes of recorded rock and roll ever. I cannot imagine what it took to get that down on tape, but it shakes me to the core. I try to put on one of the tracks at least once a day, like the true north. A reminder of what it is that is of value to me. I connect to the soul of it, the power of it, the raw fearlessness of it. It shakes and shudders. It moves me.
Its not for everyone. It really is not a common thing. It is advanced sort of thinking of what rock and roll is. I found it late, I was probably 19 or 20. I do not know what got me to it, but it was right there. ANd it tore through me. Like the poem HOWL did.
