Nealistically speaking

Beatin’ the bushes for a little culture & diversion

Nudejay — phonetics.

If you’ve been keeping up with my stuff here, you know I do a radio show on WNRB-LP in Wausau (93.3 FM). It’s on Thursday nights from 7-9. And if you like alternative rock, blues, folk, jazz, you might like this show of mine (”Roundtrip with Neal at the Wheel”). Now, a new DJ, a friend of mine, Martin James, is coming on board with his own show following mine. It’s called “Radio Free Wausau” and runs from 9-10 pm. His show will center on folk and various forms of indie-style music. And, take it from me, after talking music with him, I know Martin James is a knowledgeable guy with regards to the more obscure, deeper, undercurrent that makes listening more interesting. He was listening to my show last week while driving and heard a set I did that included Wilco and Son Volt … 2 groups that are offshoots of another called Uncle Tupelo. And he came into the studio exclaiming the Jeff Tweedy connection between Wilco and Uncle Tupelo. That’s gratifying. Martin has 7 years of previous radio experience (although he’s been out of the saddle for awhile), so I expect great things from him and his show. The cool factor for Thursday night just went up a notch. So, I encourage all to make it a thing … slap on the radio earbuds and go for a walk (Dino?) or jog or treadmill or drive or make the scene on the couch or do some housework. Get away from the TV, Web, PS3 or whatever and tap into a vibe with me followed by Martin. It’s just a little counterculture activity that just might enhance and elevate your consciousness to a state of transcendence … or at least get your head bopping and toes tapping. Turn on. Tune in. Drop your jaw.
