What shook
Pal Dino suggested that we who do radio shows on WNRB-LP (93.3 FM) post our playlists (newcomer Martin James has already been doing this for his Radio Free Wausau show). So here’s last night’s line-up from Roundtrip with Neal at the Wheel, which obviously carried a theme, as evidenced by the titles:
Twist and Shout … Beatles (live) … “Shake it up baby now!”
Shakin All Over … The Who (live at Leeds) “I got the shakes in my knee bones …”
Shake It … Magic Slim
Shake Em on Down … Bukka White “Must I, must I shake em on down”
Shake Em on Down … John Alex Mason
Hats Off to Roy Harper … Led Zeppelin
Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On … Jerry Lee Lewis
Shake it Up … The Cars
Shakedown Street … Grateful Dead “Nothin’s shakin on Shakedown Street …”
Rattlesnake Shake … Fleetwood Mac (with Peter Green) “He don’t care if he ain’t got no chick, he’s doin’ the shake”
Shake Shudder & Shiver … Small Faces
Shakin Shakin Shakes … Los Lobos
Shake Dog Shake … The Cure
Shake for Me … Howlin Wolf
You Shook Me All Night Long … AC/DC
You Shook Me … Led Zeppelin
You Shook Me … Jeff Beck (Rod Stewart vocals)
Shake Your Hips … Rolling Stones “Don’t move your lips, just shake your hips”
I Have the Touch … Peter Gabriel “Shake those hands”
Shaking Through … REM “mumble mumble mumble Shaking Through mumble”
Wake Me Shake Me … Blues Project (Monterey Pop Festival ‘67)

I am a genius.
This weekend I am listening to nothing BUT Jeff Beck. It is odd how little attention he gets, but the simple fact is I believe he is the greatest living guitar player.
His albums are amazing technical, but as my good friend Scott Holt has told me, he can play every note and make every sound live. So no studio wankery.
I had forgotten about the small faces.

And, it’s so easy to forget how awesome Rod Stewart was with Jeff Beck and the Faces. Just so on top of his game … Scottish soul, man. I wish he had never grown up (groan up).
