Saturdays are wide-open … ready for you to jump in and become a part of the community’s Saturday experience. I’m talking about hosting your own radio program on WNRB-LP (93.3 FM, Wausau). Time slots are open on Saturdays for people who’d like to bring their own personalities/musical tastes/viewpoints to the airwaves. Provide the spring/summer soundtrack for people outside washing their cars, or driving around with the windows down, or jogging with their radio headphones on.
Just think: Do an early morning wake-up show, maybe with acoustic alternative or folk music. Or a late-morning classic rock exploration of “B-sides” and deep album cuts. How about blues or classical music in the afternoon? Rule Saturday night with a party mix. Do a one-hour or two-hour show. Buddy up with someone and do a 2-person show.
It’s easy and it’s a gas. A fun sideline/hobby for your life. Takes about 10 minutes to learn the ropes in the studio. Pay is $0 … it’s an all-volunteer station. Studio is on 6th Street on Wausau’s east side at the Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Assoc. offices. Contact me here if you’re interested (there are also open slots on weekdays). And, of course, tune in for my show, Roundtrip, Thursday nights 7-9 for music you just won’t hear on any station in these parts.

That sounds awesome, Tom! I’d love to become involved with something like that, takes me back to my old college radio days. And this area is drastically in need of some modern indie rock on the airwaves. Heck, just modern rock in general. With 80’s now considered “oldies” all we have is oldies rock stations in this area, not that there’s anything wrong with jamming out to The Doors, Cream, The Kinks and the rest of the awesome 70’s.
But it’d be great to get Coheed and Cambria, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Paramore and a host of other modern rockers a chance to be heard in this area over the waves.
How can I get involved?

Hey erik,
No problem … and I agree with you.
Let me know what your preferred time slot(s) are and I’ll get the ball rolling for you. If you’d like, you can join me Thursday night and I can teach you how to run the board.
Thanks for your interest.

Awesome. I’ll plan on stopping by the station this Thursday before you shift starts. I was thinking a two hour session somewhere. As far as a time slot, is the one after your show available?
Otherwise I can stick with the Saturday need and do anything after 2:00 PM that day, earlier in the afternoon the better but I’d be willing to start as late as 6:00 PM.

Tom, can we push this back a couple of weeks? I completely forgot about some prior engagements in the excitement of getting a radio show going <.<
How about I come to visit you April 24th? I realize it’s a bit away, but I’ve got a couple of things going on with Microcosm, the short film Stop That Nun is making in May.
Sorry, I just got super pumped and sort of forgot!

I would definitely interested in hosting a show on your station. Would we need to bring in our own cd’s? Can do if needed. I would prefer some time closer to the late portion of the lineup seeing that I normally sleep unitl noon or so because of my work schedule….I have Saturdays off.
Things I would be intersted in playing would include…blues (past and present), local bands, classic rock (inclusion of lesser known bands),acid rock like Pink Floyd,ELP,Iron Butterfly, etc., a little metal but nothing too hardcore and some punk.

Hi timpothyp …
I’ll answer here and also send you an e-mail. At present, we are using our own CDs, but we are also working on creating a PC-based music library for hosts to access to build their shows. That will take another month or so.

I cannot send email, something wrong with the server right now…. so….
I’d love to do this! Let me get assurance from work that my schedule will remain the same and I’ll get back to you ASAP. I have way more cd’s than I would need, that isn’t an issue whatsoever. Will contact you back before the weekend.
Thanks, Tim
