Random Night & Don’t Miss Your Saturday Show

by Tom Neal on April 25th, 2008

I like to post the song list from my Thursday night radio shows here, just in case anyone’s into lists (I do get the occasional comment, thank you). Last night, lacking any unifying theme, and being in a bit of a hurry, I just grabbed a bunch of CDs and headed off to the station (WNRB-LP, 93.3 FM, Wausau). The resultant near-random show (7-9 pm) was one I quite enjoyed:

Steve Miller Band, Amazing Grace .. sublime
Beach Boys, Darlin’
Mark Lanegan Band, Hit the City … ex-Screaming Trees guy who’s kind of dark
The Doors, Not to Touch the Earth … Jim Morrison, who was kind of dark too
Thee Shams, You Want It … sort of Iggy meets Stones group from Ohio or thereabouts (check them out)
Ten Years After, The Stomp … Alvin Lee puts on his John Lee Hooker shoes
Cream, Cat’s Squirrel
Counting Crows, Sundays
Captain Beefheart & the Magic Band, Clear Spot … gotta love these lyrics:
I have to run so far to find a clear spot
Sun’s all hottin’ and a rottin’ hot
Swamp’s all rotten ‘n stinkin’ … uhh
Vegetation’s hot
Sleepin’ in a bayou on a old rotten cot
Can’t find my kind of folks havin’ fun
I have to run run run run
Run to find a clear spot

Jimi Hendrix, Mannish Boy
Dale Hawkins, Susie Q … recorded in 1957
Ray Davies, Vietnam Cowboys … from the Kinks’ leader’s new album
Rory Gallagher, Sinner Boy
Donovan, Poke at the Pope
Son Volt, Medicine Hat
Animals, Don’t Bring Me Down
Jefferson Airplane, Good Shepherd
Joe Jackson, Is She Really Going Out with Him?
Soft Machine, Hope for Happiness / Joy of a Toy / Hope for Happiness (reprise)
Mothers of Invention, Why Don’t You Do Me Right?
George Harrison, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
Paul McCartney, Mr. Bellamy … from Sir Paul’s 2007 album Memory Almost Full
Grateful Dead, China Cat Sunflower
Fleetwood Mac, Fool No More … from the BBC sessions, featuring Peter Green

There you have it. Oh, I have mentioned here recently that show slots are pretty much wide open for Saturdays, and I’ve had a couple people express interest. I’ve just learned that one new show has been secured for Saturday evening, so if you’re interested, don’t procrastinate … let me know and we’ll see if you can nab a prime spot (morning, afternoon or evening).

I sit here in the WNRB-LP studio training our new saturday night show…. “A Fireside Chat” is currently on the air getting a feel for the equipment… Tune in from 7-9 next saturday for a full installment of this new show!

But… still a lot of open space open on the grid!!!
