Nealistically speaking

Beatin’ the bushes for a little culture & diversion

Wrapping Up the Snickers

by Tom Neal on May 2nd, 2008

Last night’s Roundtrip (WNRB-LP, 93.3 FM, Wausau) was my first edition of “The Friggin’ Sense of Humor Show” … 2 hours of musical jokes, guffaws, chuckles, silliness, off-the-wall goofiness, etc. It may be that no one who takes life overly seriously will have had a good time listening to this stuff. But, for the rest of us …

Bo Diddley, Say Man … “You know what you is? You that thing I throw peanuts at!”
The Who, Boris the Spider … “Creepy crawly, creepy creepy, crawly crawly …”
Frank Zappa, Dirty Love … “C’mon Frenchie, nothin’ but the best for my dog”
Bob Dylan, Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream … Bob amuses himself immensely
Harry Nilsson, Jesus Christ, You’re Tall
Yardbirds, Hothouse of Omagararshid … The only lyric: “Yah, yah, yah … yah-yah-yah!”
The Baroques, Boop … vintage Milwaukee psychedelia; lyric: “Boop, boop, boop, de-deh-deh-deh”
Sparks, Mickey Mouse
Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians, Superman … “Crunchy little Superman, found you in a cornflakes box …”
They Might Be Giants, We Want a Rock … “everybody wants a rock to wind a piece of string around”
Cream, Pressed Rat & Warthog … featuring “Pressed Rat’s collection of dog legs and feet”
Rolling Stones, Something Happened to Me Yesterday … some great tuba in this
Bob Log III, Boob Scotch … “Hey, you got your boob in my scotch!”
Bonzo Dog Band, Canyons of Your Mind … “I will wander through your brain”
Beatles, You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) … “Good evening, and welcome to Slagger’s”
Beatles, And Your Bird Can Sing (outtake) … the boys crack up all the way through this one (stoners!)
The Ophelias, Lawrence of Euphoria … from tribute to Skip Spence (Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape) “She’s Vivian from Oblivion”
The Cramps, I Can’t Hardly Stand It … “If you-uh don’t-uh know-uh it by now-uh, you sow, you got me all tore up, uh!”
The Monkees, Gonna Buy Me a Dog
Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, The Laughing Song
Incredible String Band, No Sleep Blues … “With delirium no-sleepum, in a cloud of nylon foam”
Tom Waits, Chocolate Jesus … “I fall on my knees every Sunday at Zerelda Lee’s candy store”
The Who, Cobwebs & Strange
Soft Machine, We Did It Again
Mothers of Invention, Help I’m a Rock … “It’s a drag being a rock, I think I’d rather be a cop. Help I’m a cop!”
Sparks, Angst in My Pants
Bonzo Dog Band, Mr. Slater’s Parrot … “Hello, braaak!”
Bonzo Dog Band, Laughing Blues
Pink Floyd, Bike … a fitting close from the mind of Syd Barrett

I double-dog-dare you to find anything else on radio in this area remotely like this sort of programming. Next week? I don’t know; I need more coffee, first. Please join me, though … 7-9 pm Thursday.
