Gimme Sum Summer Songs

by Tom Neal on May 19th, 2008

As Memorial Weekend is upon us, I’m planning my Thursday night radio show (Roundtrip 7-9 pm, WNRB-LP, 93.3 FM, Wausau) to have a Summer theme. I’ve been rummaging through my collection at home to find appropriate cuts, but would welcome your input / comments / suggestions. Everyone has some song or other that just says, “summer” to them. Since, to me, ruminating on summer is a nostalgic thing, my choices will tend to be rooted deep in my past, recalling days long gone when I was a young’un. Many of these tunes will take me back to Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, my old neighborhood on the east side, bike rides and hikes, smells and sights. Below is a list of possibles for the show, but nothing’s cast in stone yet (well, some of these are dead certain to be on the show). Let me know what you think.

Summer in the City - Loving Spoonful

“Boys of Summer” by Don Henley. Brings me back to my teenage/high school years in Milwaukee. I had just gotten my drivers license and everything was right with the world…
