C’mon, Gimme Sum Sum Summer Songs
Well, so far I haven’t received much response from ya’ll on this summer radio show idea (read original post below please). Pal Dino is helping out by providing some cuts I don’t have (Thanks, Dino). Even if you don’t have any thoughts on tunes for this show, I hope you’ll spend Thursday night (7-9) out on the porch or deck and listen in. The weather looks promising. Invite some friends over, burn some meat on the grill, sip a Margarita, watch the sun go down, sing along with the summer songs you know. It’s Memorial Day weekend, kids … let’s get in the mood!
As Memorial Weekend is upon us, I’m planning my Thursday night radio show (Roundtrip 7-9 pm, WNRB-LP, 93.3 FM, Wausau) to have a Summer theme. I’ve been rummaging through my collection at home to find appropriate cuts, but would welcome your input / comments / suggestions. Everyone has some song or other that just says, “summer” to them. Since, to me, ruminating on summer is a nostalgic thing, my choices will tend to be rooted deep in my past, recalling days long gone when I was a young’un. Many of these tunes will take me back to Bradford Beach in Milwaukee, my old neighborhood on the east side, bike rides and hikes, smells and sights. Below is a list of possibles for the show, but nothing’s cast in stone yet (well, some of these are dead certain to be on the show). Let me know what you think.

“Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles. This is one of my favorite Beatles’ songs, period, but oh so appropo after a long, nasty winter. “It feels like years since it’s been here.”
“In the Summertime” and “Summer in the City” are quintessential.
“Grazin’ in the Grass”?
and…
Chad & Jeremy’s ” A Summer Song.” …sigh.
