The Packer Page - As The Favre Turns: Episode II
July 15th, 2008
*UPDATE* 1:44 p.m.
According to Tampa Bays Channel 10 the rumor that Favre attended dinner with Bruce Allen last night is only slightly true.
“Tampa Bay’s 10 News contacted Fleming’s, and an employee told us that the rumor was only half true - but they had also heard rumors that Favre was coming yesterday afternoon.”
“The employee said that rumors of Allen and Favre dining together were running rampant all day long. However, only Bruce Allen showed up (no Favre) and had dinner with three other gentlemen.”
Favre Interview
Welcome back Packer backers. If you missed the Favre interview last night, there is no doubt in my mind we have seen Brett spend his last moments in Green Bay.
He was aggressive, he threw punches, he accused the organization of lying.
Last nights interview did nothing more than force the wedge deeper between Brett Favre and the Packers. The ten minute or so segment, saw a feisty Favre pulling out all the stops while accusing the organization of “patronizing” his legacy.
Guess what? That was only half the interview.
If you missed the first part, the best copy of the video I have found is here. Go watch it and make a decision for yourself.
Today, I am going to take a brief peak on what you will hear Favre say later tonight. Yes, later tonight.
Favre Interview Part II
Here are some of the highlights in tonight’s interview. Stop reading if you want to be surprised. Thanks to the Green Bay Press-Gazette for providing the information.
Favre will address several issues this evening including his thoughts on the current situation.
His thoughts on his former team-mates and the situation at hand:
“I have talked to numerous guys throughout this whole ordeal. I wish them the best, I really do. I hold nothing against those guys. We had a lot of fun together. We had - it was an amazing year last year. I don’t want to make it any worse than it is.
“I’ve always been a Packer, always will be a Packer. Will I play somewhere else? Remains to be seen. But I don’t want to go back there just to stick it to them. And the only reason I’m doing this — I got to a point, I hadn’t been saying anything, I felt like I had to defend myself, which I don’t like to do.”
“And thinking about this, couldn’t sleep last night, I said, ‘I’m just going to tell the truth. I have nothing to hide.’ And what they’re telling is part of it. All I’m saying is I called, not long ago, said I was really thinking about playing again, and here we are. It’s escalated into something mind-boggling.”
When asked about Aaron Rodgers:
“You know, the one thing in this, I do feel bad for Aaron a little bit. I think he’ll do a fine job, to be totally honest with you, I do. He has been injured. I mean, the two injuries are not his fault. Couldn’t control. I know this has been tough on him. I think he’ll do a fine job. And this has nothing to do with him, this whole deal.”
On the Packers protecting his legacy:
“If they want to make a backup — the thing is, they had been preaching about we want to protect Brett’s legacy and we think he should — and we both know how, you know, what that’s about. How does that protect my legacy if I’m a backup, if I’m, you know, Brett, we’ll welcome you back, we’ll pay you $12 million, but you’ve got to hold the clipboard and ball cap? That’s probably better for them as opposed to letting me go somewhere and me coming back. Then their legacy, the management, would, you know, could be in jeopardy.”
“Let me worry about that, you know? You don’t worry about my legacy. And you know, it’s a bunch of bull. It’s all it is.”
Finally, Favre will say perhaps the dumbest and most damning thing he has said to date when he literally throws his friend and now likely former coach right under the bus.
When asked about assistant Coach James Campen’s visit:
“And he’s caught in the middle of this, which he doesn’t want to be caught in the middle of it. Yes, we are friends. We do talk. That’s really how this whole thing got started, but, you know, that’s not his job.”
“He says, ‘You know, I know they told you they’re moving on and playing there’s not an option. Playing here in Green Bay is not an option, which that’s what they want. They want to move on. But I’m telling you, if you reinstate or you force their hand, back them in a corner, they feel like they have no other option, they’re going to accept you back.”
“And he said, ‘Just telling you.’ And I said, ‘OK.’
“…you know, I didn’t want to go back there after that. You know, and really already, after what Mike had told me when he said, ‘Hey Brett, I’m sorry, we’ve moved on,’ that was OK. That was OK.’
Let me break this down for you in case it hasn’t sunk in yet.
1) A Packers coach, employed by organization visits Brett.
2) The coach tells Brett, “Hey, they don’t want you back, they’re moving on.”
3) Said coach then tells Brett, “If you force the issue they have no choice.”
(wink wink)
This statement by Favre shocked me to say the least. If that conversation actually took place, it speaks volumes about Brett. He takes Coach Campen, a longtime friend, and throws him to the wolves.
Brett Favre had no reason to mention this at his friend’s expense … he did it to make himself look good.
I feel sorry for James Campen today. Although he should have kept his mouth shut about forcing the issue, there is nothing like getting kicked in the nuts by your buddy and future Hall of Famer.
That’s all for today. This situation is getting out of hand and I need a break.
Once again, thanks for checking in. I will post the video link for tonight’s interview sometime around 10 p.m. this evening. Until then, my dog, my wife, and myself are going to enjoy some sun today.
“Brett Favre - you’re dead to me.”

Alex…something cannot be half true.
A claim cannot be half right
In this case, what are your sources for these claims of the meal at flemmings? Let them be shown to be false on their merits, not you making these claims.

It’s obvious you’ve taken a side, which is fine. There are conclusions that are stretched.
With that said, I respect your opinion and look forward to reading it. Even if I don’t always agree, you give direct links to the stories that gave you those conclusions.
Only in Green Bay could this get create a media storm like we’re seeing. I love this team and it’s obvious you do too. GO PACK GO.

PackOne,
All I can say right now is that if Favre does end up being traded to Tampa Bay soon…I will give you ALL the props in the world for this one. Of the 25+ plus Packer blogs/Packer related sites that I read everyday, you were the ONLY one to mention and pursue this possibility very strongly. With that being said, I won’t lose any respect for you if you’re wrong, considering you’ve always noted that it’s uncomfirmed, but if you do end up being right….NICE.
I’m convinced as well that we’ll never see Brett back as a Packer. That’s almost an unimaginable scenario now. I’m still hoping he just accepts that they’ve moved on without him, playing for another team wouldn’t be in his best interests and he just stays retired. If he REALLY wants to play though, I think he will. We’ll see…
