Through the first three games of the 2008 season, Aaron Rodgers has zero interceptions. In fact, besides a couple of forced throws towards the end of the Dallas game, he hasn’t been close to throwing a pick.
How do we take that? Is Rodgers being ultra conservative, afraid of taking risks that may result in a turnover? Is he going to be a game manager type of QB who doesn’t make many mistakes, but won’t make any big plays either? Or is it a slight mixture of the two, taking chances when he needs to, but at the same time, making high percentage throws that will limit his mistakes?
I’ll go with the final option. Thus far, Rodgers has done what I said he will do: limit his turnovers. I don’t think it’s a sign that Rodgers won’t ever take a risk or make a deep throw downfield. He did that during the opening night victory against Minnesota, which resulted in a 60 yard completion to Jennings, despite GJ being closely covered by two Vikings defenders. I don’t think he’s afraid to go deep when he needs to or when the opportunity for a big play presents itself.
Maybe I’m running myself around a circle with this, but I’m just glad to see Rodgers is doing exactly what I thought he would: keep his interception total down. Say what you want about being too conservative, but turnovers are a HUGE factor in the NFL and I’m glad we have a quarterback who keeps the turnovers down. It’s only going to help both him and the Packers in the long run.
Rodgers is only the 3rd QB since 1970 to pass for 500+ yards with 0 interceptions through his first three career starts.
The other two?
Warren Moon and Tom Brady.
Pretty good company, if you ask me.

No, you don’t actually have to tell me who Tramon Williams is. I know who the guy is.
But, now that it appears Al Harris will miss most of the season, if not the entire year, Tramon Williams jumps into the starting spot that was once occupied by Harris.
You know he’s #38 and you probably know he came out of nowhere last season to make the final roster.
But do you really know Tramon Williams?
Here’s some tidbits about our new starting cornerback:
- Scored his first pro touchdown, returning a pooch punt out of field-goal formation 94 yards for a score vs. Carolina on November 18, 2007. (My first game at Lambeau)
- Made his first career start vs. Detroit (Dec. 30), with the team opening in ‘nickel’; made a career-high five tackles (four solo), one interception and two passes defensed. In the second quarter, made his first career interception, catching a pass tipped by Cullen Jenkins and returning it 22 yards. Also had a career-high three punt returns for 17 yards
- A first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection at Louisiana Tech who had seven career interceptions and led the nation in passes defensed (19) as a senior in 2005.
- Signed to the Green Bay practice squad on Nov. 29, 2006, where he spent the final five weeks of the season.
- In the NFC Championship Game vs. the New York Giants (Jan. 20), in the second quarter, broke up a third-and-12 pass intended for WR David Tyree, forcing a field goal attempt. In the third quarter, ran a kickoff back 49 yards to the Giants’ 39-yard line; the drive ended with a Donald Lee TD catch.
- Graduated with a bachelor of arts in sociology.
- Four-year letterman at Assumption High School in Napoleonville, La.
- Has participated in the Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowl-A-Thon, played for the ‘Green Machine’ basketball team and rung bells for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign during the holidays.
- Enjoys fishing, playing basketball and PlayStation 3, touting ‘Madden Football’ and ‘Fight Night’ as his favorite games

And there you have it. Now you know more about # 38 Tramon Williams, our new starting cornerback. Let’s just hope he doesn’t play at the level of a backup CB who was inserted in the starting lineup because of an injury last season. That would be Jarrett Bush in Dallas. You know how that turned out.

That’s essentially what Al Harris told his doctor to do after learning he had a severe spleen injury.
Woah now, Al.
You’re a tough SOB and that’s for sure. Many people may not know that Harris has never missed an NFL game in his entire career. Whatever the reason, Harris knows how to stay on the field and tough it out through injuries. But playing a few days after having your spleen removed, Al? I don’t think that’s a smart idea. While some may be all for it since that would mean getting a top defender back on the field ASAP, it’s just not a very wise decision.
Harris’ doctor and the Packers were right in telling him “I don’t think so” and giving him a few weeks to see how things play out with the spleen.
What exact purpose does a spleen serve, anyway?

Hey everyone.
It’s been a few days since I last wrote on here. My apologies. During the good ole days of summer, when I worked part time and didn’t do much else besides typical 20 year old male stuff, I had ample time to read anything and everything green and gold. I also had plenty of time on my hands to write on this blog and share my thoughts.
Oh, how quickly going back to college has changed that.
The past week has been a busy one with tests, projects, papers, homework, work, etc. I just haven’t had the time to do much football and Packer reading, yet alone blogging. I don’t know how some of the bloggers out there (Cheesehead TV, packergeeks, Brats and Beer Guy, etc.) keep up with numerous entries throughout the week. And I’m sure they have a much more busier life than I do!
Anyhow, again, sorry for the lack of entries for your daily Packer reading. Things should slow up work wise after tomorrow night, so I should be back at it on here.
Keep reading, Packer-backers!

Here are some highlights - although you may not want to see them, of Sunday night’s game.
Thanks to the Packers Lounge for finding the video and picking up the slack during this busy time.

In case you forgot, check out what Patrick Crayton had to say in early August about the Favre saga and how it was affecting Aaron Rodgers:
“It’s shaking [Green Bay quarterback] Aaron Rodgers. Regardless of what they’re saying up there, I think it’s shaking him,” Crayton said. “And the coaches need to hurry up and get that under control.”
After hearing about Rodgers’ performance in the family night scrimmage:
“His defense had film on him in that scrimmage, and what did he do?” Crayton said. “Okay. That’ll let you know.”
Obviously, Rodgers’ poor performance in that scrimmage was a huge indicator of how he would fare in real, live games. And he didn’t play good because, well, the defense had film of him. DUH!
So, yeah, it’s also apparent that the Favre saga was definitely shaking Rodgers. I mean, Rodgers really folded under that pressure. He didn’t act like a professional AT ALL. It’s still shaking him through the first two games, isn’t it Patrick?
I wish Crayton played defense. Either way, I hope that Rodgers shreds the Boys’ secondary on Sunday night and we’ll see what Crayton thinks about him after that.

From ProFootballTalk.com:
“Two games into the season, the Minnesota Vikings have made a change at quarterback.
Multiple media outlets are reporting that Gus Frerotte will replace Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
So far this season Jackson has completed 30 of 59 passes for 308 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Frerotte started three games for the Rams last season and completed 94 of 167 passes for 1,014 yards, with seven touchdowns and 12 interceptions.”
Does this come as a surprise to anyone after the Vikings started 0-2 and Jackson has done absolutely nothing to prove that he can adequately run an NFL offense? When the Vikings were getting all the hype as NFC Super Bowl contenders, all along I said that I didn’t really agree with that, but that they could be a playoff team if Jackson just plays average. But I was even skeptical with believing that could happen, because nothing had shown me that Jackson really turned the corner or that things started to click for him. I wasn’t going to believe it, until I saw the results.
Now, I probably won’t even get the chance. Frerotte is now the apparent starter and if he struggles and the Vikings land at 0-5 or 1-4 after the next three games (and that’s a good possibility) the Vikings should just turn to their third guy, John David Booty.
Eh, either way you look at it, the Vikes don’t have a starting QB on their team, are off to an 0-2 start, and are two games behind the Pack in the division.
Ah, yes, don’t you just love all that preseason hype the Vikings were getting? And now, early on atleast, it’s all for diddly squat.

So, I’m looking through the Packers roster a couple of minutes ago to pass some time before I head to class and I just found this to be interesting. Take a look at where our top 4 WRs went to college:
Donald Driver - Alcorn State
Greg Jennings - Western Michigan
James Jones - San Jose State
Ruvell Martin - Saginaw Valley State
Wait, where? None of our top guys went to a big name school. Not even close.
I don’t know why I thought that was interesting. Just is.

As always, in bullet point style, here’s some random thoughts and observations from the game yesterday, through the eyes of Vegas.
- Is Aaron Rodgers the perfect fit for McCarthy’s WCO or what? Sure looks like it after his first two starts. Yes, they were against below average secondaries in Minny and Detroit, but still quite impressive, no doubt about it. 70% completion percentage. 4 touchdowns. 118 QB rating. And maybe most importantly, no interceptions.
- Rodgers is doing just what I thought he would do, for the most part. Getting the ball in the hands of his playmakers and letting them make plays. He’s great at getting out of the pocket when need be and making accurate throws on the run.
- When are we going to have a healthy Ryan Grant? This was a Lions run defense that gave up over 200 yards rushing to Michael Turner last week and one that was the worst in the league last season. And he produces 15 carries for 20 yards? The hammy injury is still lingering, obviously. Before he knows it, he’s going to be splitting carries with B-Jax and Lumpkin. Maybe they should give him a week or two of rest.
- That’s my boy, Jordy! First career reception, first career touchdown. Hopefully, that’s one of many in his career in Green Bay.
- Is it obvious now that Greg Jennings is an up and coming WR star who is only going to get better? He’s clearly Rodgers’ favorite target out there and 85 now leads the league in receiving yards.
- 40 points in the 4th quarter. Wow.
- Another good performance, in terms of pass rush. Although we only had one sack to show for it last week, they still put pressure on Jackson all game long. This week, the sacks came. 5 of them.
- Two of those were from AJ Hawk. Many were calling for him to have a breakout year. Led the team in tackles (5) and sacks (2) yesterday vs. Detroit.
- How bad was that tackling on Calvin Johnson’s second touchdown? Three guys had a chance and it looked like they were playing two hand in touch. Although that may just be a reflection of how freakishly good and fast Johnson is.
- May have been a slightly high snap, but Derrick Frost, you gotta catch that, especially when you’re in your own freakin end zone!
- What injured toe? Woodson was the MVP of the game. Both of his interceptions sealed the game.
- Hey, Nick Collins, you finally caught one.
- Anyone else find Kitna’s reaction after the second pick six extremely humorous? He took his helmet off and began walking off the field, not even bothering to run after Collins. “Why in the hell do I have to quarterback the Lions?”
