Gamers have already seen not-so-inconspicuous product placements in several games, and they can expect in-game advertising to be taken to the next level. Apparently Google has devised “AdSense for Games,” an advertising system that can be implemented in future games.

Here’s how AdSense works, as shown in demos: an in-game character may suddenly pre-empt and announce a video advertisement, which immediately follows.

The idea of having an in- game character suddenly advertising for a product is, in a sense, a bit disorienting. However, the guys at Google have reportedly tested AdSense for Games for quite some time now, so it’s better to wait for it’s actual implementation before we can pass judgement.

Despite having tested the application extensively, Google still held back from releasing AdSense for Games at the moment, a fact that baffled some people from the gaming industry. “I don’t know what’s taking them so long. They could move into this market very quickly, given what they have shown off,” said one of the sources.

CCP Nozh has posted a developer blog detailing the rebalancing of speed in EVE Online . After a lengthy meeting in which the issue of speed was discussed, the devs laid down five basic tenets:

Speed must never reach ludicrous speed, which is defined as speeds where missiles and drones don’t intercept the class of ship they were intended for.

There should be a significant and meaningful difference in speed between the ship classes.

Speed should not permit a larger ship to perform the role that a smaller specialized ship was intended for.

Afterburners should be a viable module selection for PVP.

Guerrilla warfare must remain a viable combat tactic.

Nozh’s blog lays out the basics of speed, the way things were, and the way things will be.
