The music has held up and in fact got a bit better than it had been for a year or two, younger bands are popping up all over the place, bands want to come here to play and with newer venues such as The Fillmor, Mickey’s Billiards, Arrow Sports Bar, Malarkeys and Rockwater Jr. having live music being prevelent in their business plans, there should be an increase in attendence at shows…. at least I hope so.

I’m hoping personally that The Fillmor doesn’t pidgeonhole themselves by limiting the array of music. I feel they are targeting country, soft rock, blues and bands that you could see at other venues in this area. Open it up to all styles of musicians and I may attend more often. I’ll even go see a country band!

I often have wondered if the days of the real lure of live music are fading away. Maybe it’s just my elder perspective, but it seems to me that people used to be more hungry for the live music experience. They were looking for something outside the usual, normal, ineffectual set of stimuli the faced in their lives. Maybe expectations have lowered because so much of the musical product that’s out there doesn’t carry the creative punch it should. Lot of posing. Lot of angst. Lot of aggression. Not a lot of music. I hope I’m just wrong … jaded … and there’s still rich experiences to be had. I hope the Filmor brings in good acts and packs in the crowds. How cool would that be!
